To assist parents in their duty as Christian parents to raise their children in the ways of faith, the church requires all parents to attend baptismal preparation classes prior to scheduling the baptism of their children. It is strongly recommended that the classes be scheduled and attended during the second trimester of pregnancy. This will allow the parents time to attend the classes, secure a time for the baptism, select godparents and invite family and friends to the baptism ceremony.
First time Parents must attend two preparation classes, held on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. prior to scheduling their child's baptism.Sponsors are encouraged to attend the classes.
Parents celebrating the baptism of additional children are required to attend one baptism preparation class, prior to scheduling their child's baptism, held on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00p.m.
Classes are not offered during the month of December.
Baptism liturgies are celebrated on the 2nd and the 4th Sunday afternoons of each month at 2:30 p.m.Only those who have competed the required pre-baptism classes may have their children baptized at these ceremonies. Please call the Parish Office to register for the classes and upon completion of the classes parents are eligible to register for the baptism ceremony. Upon registration you will receive a registration form and a confirmation of the date of your child's baptism.
Requirements for God Parents
Godparents play a very important role in the baptism and lives of their godchildren. The role of a godparent is to assist the parents in raising the child in the Catholic faith. They are to serve as examples of Christian living and be willing to share in the teaching of the faith and traditions of the Church. The commitment of a godparent is a lifelong commitment to the child's faith formation and development of Christian values.
