The Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is a grassroots, community-based non-profit organization serving the inner-city Houston community. It was incorporated in 1980 and since that time CCSC has grown to encompass a coalition of 42 churches united in service.
St. Michael is one of those churches who provide financial assistance to CCSC. We also provide CCSC with our collected food and clothing donations.
Parish volunteer representatives are Jenny Golac and Kathy Tedore.
The mission of the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is to serve the poor, hungry, disabled, and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences.
CCSC was created out of faith, and founded in the belief that we are called to help all God's children heart to heart and hand in hand.
St. Michael participates with CCSC in two annual programs, namely: Back to School and Jingle Bell Express. The former runs in July and the later in November of each year. Information about both activities can be found in the bulletin during those times of the year.
Hunger is a year-around problem here in Houston. In any given month 80,000 receive food assistance in our city. 44% of these recipients are under the age 18, and 85% are not homeless.
The parish response to food for the needy works in conjunction with CCSC. Food drives are conducted throughout the year both in the school and in the parish at large. These contributions are stored on site and transferred to the CCSC pantry for distribution to those in need. Receptacles are also placed at the entrances to the church for parishioners to deposit no-perishable goods.
St. Michael has also been working in partnership with Randall's with their "Good Neighbor" program. Our account number is 7282. We receive 1% from all purchases made using this number. Please sign up at your area Randall's.
