Elementary Formation: Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5

Sunday Faith Formation Classes

The goal of Faith Formation is to promote a relationship with God based in the Church, love for one another and prayer. Children in grades 1-5 learn about Catholic life and worship through a curriculum that integrates Scripture, saint stories, prayer, and Catholic Social Teaching with the themes of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. They use the "Finding God" curriculum by Loyola Press.

Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten students learn about Catholic life and worship and Scripture through the "God Loves Us" curriculum by Loyola Press and the "Stories of God's Love" curriculum by RCL Benziger.

Classes are Sunday mornings from 10:15-11:30 a.m. during the academic year. Please see the calendar for specific dates.

**Children need to be enrolled in Faith Formation in both first grade and second grade in order to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in second grade.

Sunday Faith Formation volunteers serve in the following roles:

1. The catechist shares his or her Catholic faith with students in grades preschool through 5th grade.

2. A classroom assistant helps the lead catechist during the Sunday morning classes.

3. A substitute catechist or assistant is willing to fill in if one of the regular catechists cannot attend class.

4. Arrival and dismissal volunteers walk students who arrive late to their classrooms. They also help monitor by the school entrance as students are dismissed from Sunday morning classes.

Home School Faith Formation

The Office of Children Faith Formation also offers the opportunity for parents to home school their children the faith formation curriculum. Parents teach the lessons to the children at home and the children are asked to attend two scheduled assessments throughout the year to ensure that they are up to date with the material. Families teaching faith formation at home have found an additional benefit is the flexibility of teaching at their own pace and on your own schedule. Textbooks and other necessary supplies for the program are included with the tuition paid to the Office of Children Faith Formation.
