St. Michael's journey with Social Justice began under the direction of Sr. Frances Klinger who introduced the parish to JustFaith in the fall of 2002. JustFaith provides a lively and challenging opportunity to read, discuss, pray, experience and be formed by Catholic Social Doctrine and the Scriptures as they relate to the poor and vulnerable in our community, nation and the world.
Our social justice group is called Beyond JustFaith because its members have all graduated from the 30 week JustFaith course, and because the group’s mission is to demonstrate through their actions that one cannot have “faith” without working for “justice”. The group works with the parish Social Justice Ministry to enhance current services, and to identify need for works of charity in our community. Recent projects have included serving Thanksgiving brunch to residents of SVDP Village, a "fair trade" artisan goods sales, and distribution of "care bags" to area homeless.
The group’s first meeting of 2010 will be January 5th at 7pm. Please contact Ray Sylvester, ray@stmichaelchurch.net if you are interested in participating.
