Hunger is a year-round problem here in Houston. In any given month 80,000 receive food assistance in our city. 44% of these recipients are under age 18, and 85% are not homeless.
The parish response to food for the needy works in conjunction with the Christain Community Service Center (CCSC). Food drives are conducted throughout the year both in the school and in the parish at large. These contributions are stored and sorted on site and tranferred to the two CCSC pantries for distribution to those in need.
Additionally, food is also dispensed on an emergency basis as those needs arise.
Receptacles are placed at the entrances to the church for parishioners to deposit no-perishable goods. A list is also proivded on the donation receptacle indicating what items are especially needed.
St. Michael has also been working in partnership with Randall's with their "Good Neighbor" program. Our account number is 7282. We receive 1% from all purchases made using this number. Please sign up at your area Randall's.
