THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY

"God who created man out of love also calls him to love – the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being. For man is created in the image and likeness of God who himself is love.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1604.

St. Michael’s offers a vibrant marriage preparation program for those entering into the sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Marriage is a life-long, commitment rooted in God’s own faithfulness to us. Thus, the Church asks you to prepare for this commitment by attending a 6-9 month preparation process that will address fundamental truths and practical skills which will assist you to live out the vocation to marriage in accordance with God’s will for you.

Couples wishing to be married at St. Michael's should be registered and financially contributing to the parish for at least one year prior to beginning the marriage preparation process. Non-registered and/or non-contributing individuals are welcome to have their wedding and preparation at St. Michael's for a higher fee. For non-parishioners who would like to have their wedding at St. Michael, preparation at St. Michael is required. Once a date is set and preparation begins, the deposit is non-refundable.

Marriage preparation at St. Michael’s is open to registered parishioners only. If one would like to attend marriage preparation classes at St. Michael and have their own parish priest or deacon complete the paperwork component, we can provide that option for non parishioners.

Faith, Fun, & Friendship

The Wedding Guild is first and foremost a Ministry. We serve the engaged couples of our parish as hostesses at both Wedding rehearsals and the Wedding. We work behind the scenes to ensure that the environment for the bride and groom’s Sacrament of Marriage has the fewest distractions. We assist with boutonnieres and corsages, photographers, greeting guests, and the procession of the wedding party.

We minister to each other through faith-based activities at our meetings, stressing fellowship with other Guild members.

We are a ministry for any service-oriented parishioner who wants to make friends and feel connected to others in this large parish. Just ask any one of us how we have been blessed with friendships through volunteering in this ministry!

If you are considering joining a ministry at St. Michael's and would like to know more about the Wedding Guild, please contact Mary Spiller at mary.spiller@comcast.net
