Christmas Toy Drive: Thank you for all the wonderful toys and donations!

2016   2016c

Christmas Toy Drive

Provide a child with a toy this Christmas!  All Christmas toys will benefit the children of San Raphael Catholic Church and Christian Community Service Center’s “Jingle Bell Express”.

Shop for a child between the ages of newborn to teenager.

Gift Suggestions include: beginner trucks, baby dolls, farm toys, LEGOs, puzzles, action figures, coloring book and crayons, sports equipment, science set, hand-held video games, walkman, board games, skateboard, scooter, nail polish, gel pens, bath and body lotion, and gift cards.

Please bring unwrapped toys to Mass or Parish Office through December 11.

Adopt-A-Family

This year St. Michael will be participating in Adopt-A-Family with parish families of San Raphael. Our goal this year is to sponsor 40 families that are in need during the Christmas holidays. We would like 40 families or teams of families from St. Michael to come forward and adopt these 40 families from San Raphael. To sponsor a family, you would receive a list of items the family would like, buy Christmas gifts, and then stop by your sponsored family’s home before Christmas to deliver the items. This is another great way for families between St. Michael and San Raphael to come together. If you are interested in sponsoring a family, please contact Jennifer Gonzalez in the parish office.

All families have been adopted!

Thanksgiving Food Drive

A collection of Thanksgiving food items will be held on Saturday, November 5 through Friday, November 18. All donations will benefit the food pantries of Christian Community Service Center. Please bring non-perishable food items only; nothing that needs refrigeration. Food items may be dropped off in the Welcome Center, in any of the food bins located within the church, or at the Parish Office.

Operation Backpack: Parishioners were asked to donate backpacks and school supplies. We collected 120 filled backpacks with school supplies  which were then delivered to San Raphael Catholic Church. Another $1,235 was given to Christian Community Service Center's Back to School Program.  Thank you to all those who helped support Operation Backpack!  You have made many children happy and ready for the new school year!!

Collection, Assembly, & Distribution of

Hope Bags for the Homeless

Thanks to kids at SMCC, the children of CFF, and the teens of YFF, we were able to make and hand out 657 Hope Bags!

Hope Bags

We will continue our Lenten service project of the collection and distribution of Hope Bags for the homeless.

The children from our school and parish will be collecting all the items for the Hope Bags from Ash Wednesday, February 10 through Sunday, February 21.  Each grade has been assigned items to bring to add to our collection for the Hope Bags. The middle school kids in SMCC will then assemble all the bags during the week of February 22-26.  High school students will hand out the completed bags to the families after all the Masses on the weekend of February 27-28.

Items in the Hope Bags include: small can of fruits or vegetables (pull tabs only), package of peanut butter or cheese crackers, granola bar, canned meat (pull tab only), a cutlery pack, half pint water bottle, pair of socks, St. Michael prayer card, handmade card with an encouraging note by one of our students, and a crisis information brochure on Houston’s homeless shelters.

The idea behind the production and delivery of the Hope Bags is to give each grade or age group a particular role to play in the process. Without one group’s cooperation, we could not complete the project. The Pre-K through 8th graders will collect the items, the 6th-8th graders will assemble the bags, and the 9th-12th graders will help hand out the bags to the families during the first weekend of March.  Families are invited to keep these bags in their car and share the bags when they see a homeless or needy person on a street corner. What a wonderful way to share our material gifts with others and to show our care for those most in need!

Last year we assembled 692 Hope Bags; this year we hope to exceed that amount. Together, through the combining efforts between our school and parish, every age range from children through aging adults are able to participate in a practical gift that provides dignity and respect to those in need.

If you have any questions about the Hope Bags or want to be more involved, please contact me by email or phone, which are both located on the bottom of this page.

In Jesus and Mary,

Jennifer Gonzalez

 Adopt-A-Family

This year St. Michael will be participating in Adopt-A-Family with parish families of San Raphael. Our goal this year is to sponsor 35 families that are in need during the Christmas holidays. We would like 35 families or teams of families from St. Michael to come forward and adopt these 35 families from San Raphael. To sponsor a family, you would contact the family you are matched with, meet with them in their home to learn about Christmas toys or Christmas food they would like, and then stop by your sponsored family’s home before Christmas to deliver the items. This is another great way for families between St. Michael and San Raphael to come together. If you are interested in sponsoring a family, please contact Jennifer Callon in the parish office.

All families have been adopted!

St Michael 2   ARCHANGEL FESTIVAL   St Raphael 2

After the success of our second annual Archangel Festival in October 2014, St. Michael parish will gather again with San Raphael Catholic Church, a mission of our parish from the 1950s-1990s, to celebrate our two parish communities coming together. The Archangel Festival of 2015 will be on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00am - 1:00pm at San Raphael Catholic Church, 3915 Ocee Street, Houston, TX 77063.

The Archangel Festival is a free health fair where many activities will be available for San Raphael parishioners to partake and participate. The Christus Mobile Health Clinic will be present to check blood pressure, glucose, and lipid panels. Juno Research will also be present for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol screenings. Eye Care for Kids will be checking children’s vision, as well Saving Smiles with Bureau of Oral Health will provide dental cleanings for children. Walgreens will also be on hand again to administer free flu shots. A distribution of new blankets will be given out to families in need. And while the adults are busy with medical assistance and paperwork, the children can have fun with the Kids’ Activities, including relays, games, a bouncy house, face painting, and booths.

In the afternoon, lunch will be served. All participants and volunteers of the Archangel Festival are invited to stay for lunch. St. Michael Knights of Columbus will serve lunch and San Raphael will provide dessert. Together, our two parishes can enjoy food and fellowship as we build community with one another.

Thus, volunteers will be needed from both St. Michael and San Raphael. I would like to encourage all to participate, especially families. You can sign up online through the St. Michael website.

Another quick reminder: please consider donating new blankets for the festival. A collection of blankets will be from September 12-25.

St Michael 2 ARCHANGEL FESTIVAL Picture2

Back in October 2012, Think Tank sessions were held to brainstorm ideas of where St. Michael parishioners could go out and get their ‘hands dirty’ by volunteering. From the outcome of these sessions, we have decided to have three large service projects during 2013. Our first service project was the collection and distribution of Hope Bags for the homeless; the second service project was participating in Habitat for Humanity; our third service project will be the Archangel Festival.

Our St. Michael parish will gather with San Raphael Catholic Church, who used to be a mission of our parish in the 1950s-1990s, to celebrate our two communities coming together as one in spirit, mind, and body. The Archangel Festival will be on Saturday, October 5 from 10:00am - 3:00pm at San Raphael Catholic Church, 3915 Ocee Street, Houston, TX 77063.

Many activities will be available for San Raphael parishioners to partake and participate. The Christus Mobile Health Clinic will be present to check blood pressure, glucose, and lipid panels. The Houston Food Bank Mobile Truck will have 10,000 pounds of fresh produce, as well as have some staff members on hand to help people fill out forms to qualify for SNAP, TANF, CHIP, and Medicaid. Juno Research will also be present for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol screenings. The Gabriel Project will have a table available with information on unplanned pregnancies. A distribution of coats, jackets, and blankets will be given out to families in need. And while the adults are busy with medical assistance and paperwork, the children can have fun with the Kids’ Activities, including relays, games, a bouncy house, face painting, and booths.

At 1:00pm, all activities will shut down and lunch will be served. All participants and volunteers of the Archangel Festival are invited to stay for lunch. St. Michael will serve lunch and San Raphael will provide dessert. Together, our two parishes can enjoy food and fellowship as we build community with one another.

Thus, volunteers will be needed from both St. Michael and San Raphael. I would like to encourage all to participate, especially families. On the weekend of August 24-25, you can sign up after Mass to volunteer for any of the activities for the day; you may also sign up online through the St. Michael website beginning that same weekend.

Another quick reminder: please save any clean and presentable jackets, coats, blankets, gloves, and scarves that may be donated toward the distribution for the festival. A collection of new or gently used items will begin the weekend of September 14-15.

If you have any questions about the Archangel Festival or want to be more involved, please contact me by email or phone, which are both located on the bottom of this page.

organization logoSt. Michael will be participating in building another Habitat for Humanity home!  The home we will be working on is located in Hamill Crossing, near Beltway 8 and I-45 in Northwest Houston.  St. Michael has been assigned three work Saturdays: April 27 (Wall Raising), May 4 (Trusses), and May 11 (Decking).  Each of the days, volunteers work from 8am-3pm with lunch provided. Due to the overwhelming response from our parishioners to serve, all volunteer spots have been filled.  If you have any questions or would like to be an alternate, please contact Jennifer Callon at This email address is being protected from spambots.        The Hope Bags were a SUCCESS!!  Our middle school children from SMCC assembled 1339 Hope Bags.  On the weekend of March 2-3, 2013, Hope Bags were handed out to parishioners after all the Masses.  There are 200 Hope Bags leftover.  If you are interested in picking one up, please contact the parish office.  Thank You to All who participated and made the Hope Bag service project a reality!

Hope Bags

Starting in October 2012, Think Tank sessions were held to brainstorm ideas of where St. Michael parishioners could go out and get their ‘hands dirty’ with those who are in need. From the outcome of these sessions, we have decided to have four large service projects during 2013. Our first service project will be the collection and distribution of Hope Bags for the homeless.

The children from our school and parish will be collecting all the items for the Hope Bags from Ash Wednesday, February 13 through Sunday, February 24.  Each grade has been assigned items to bring to add to our collection for the Hope Bags. The middle school kids in SMCC will then assemble all the bags during the week of February 25 through March 1.  High school students will hand out the completed bags to the families after all the Masses on the weekend of March 2-3.

Families are invited to keep these bags in their car and share the bag when they see a homeless or needy person on a street corner. What a wonderful way to share our material gifts with others and to show our care for those most in need!

We hope to assemble around 2,500 Hope Bags. Together, through the combining efforts between our school and parish, every age range from children through aging adults are able to participate in a practical gift that provides dignity and respect to those in need. I look forward with great expectation as we move together on our first big project. Please stay tuned for future service projects and how you can participate.
